Castlefield was developed in the 1980s into a trendy canalside residential area with many tourist attractions including waterside pubs, museums, art galleries, an outdoor arena and the reconstructed Roman fort. Only a few minutes walk from the city centre, Castlefield is popular with young professionals avoiding a daily commute to work and enjoying the proximity to ’s nightlife. The area’s industrial heritage is still clearly visible, with railway viaducts, canal systems and renovated warehouse buildings alongside more modern apartment bocks and tramlines. Development is still ongoing and Castlefield Partnership, a forum for local discussion, is soon to be set up. Castlefield is a great place to live with the potential for a real sense of community. I'm hoping to encourage people to get involved in reducing their impact on the environment, whilst getting to know their neighbours at the same time.
