Building on the evidence gained from the Operation EDEN pilot study on Merseyside (2004 – 07), Faiths4Change aims to support people of faith and other local residents to create partnership project solutions to environmental issues in their communities. We work closely with agencies from all sectors from local authorities to residents & tenants groups to ensure maximum support for projects & their longer term sustainability. We’ve also offered support to more than 150 faith communities on Merseyside and are now looking to extend this across the region.
Working across the North West in Merseyside, Old Trafford, Preston & Burnley - Faiths4Change provides free, responsive support to members of faith communities and residents working in partnership. Project Officers, Helen Saarma, Helen D, Tom, Samia and Assistant Project Officer Karen, provide support and advice including helping to identify potential partners, sources of funding and sharing learning. Working with Myerscough College and a range of partners we will provide NVQ accredited, environmentally focused learning opportunities responsive to the needs of participants. We have a small grant fund to support partnership project development.
We supported 57 projects with small grants during Operation EDEN and among them were:
- A furniture refurbishment social enterprise developed by Liverpool Lighthouse, a Pentecostal Church in Anfield
- Community food growing schemes created by local churches, the Muslim led Al-Ghazali Multicultural Centre, Asylum Link Merseyside and the Big Issue in the North
