New Growing in the City Scheme is launching in East and needs your support!
Growing in the City is a volunteer-led group, established to promote the growing, eating and cooking of healthy, locally produced food. A site for East ’s first “Grow Your Own” scheme has been found and a fun filled day of work will be taking place on Sunday 3rd November between 11am and 4pm. The address is St. Barnabas Church Rectory, South Street, Lower Openshaw, M11 2EY.
The scheme will kick off with a day of ground clearing and preparation of the new site. To keep both workers and the activity fuelled and motivated, there will be lots of cake, hot food, tea/coffee etc.. Toffee apples and treacle treats for kids (and adults). It should be a fun day regardless of weather or numbers!! ALL are WELCOME.
The organisers are also looking for ANY support/assistance regarding the hire/loan/costs of:
- Tools/equipment to cut back bramble, nettles and weeds etc and start digging out roots
- Skip(s) and bins – to remove rubbish/bricks and non-recyclable waste
- Refreshments/food as well as cooking/warming of food etc.
- ….and finally advertising the event.
