Helen Starr-Keddle, Sustainability Coordinator

Helen Starr-Keddle

I'm currently supporting our Local Project Managers (LPMs) in their local areas to in turn support individuals to live more sustainably, and to initiate and support groups to take action to improve the sutainability of their community. It's amazing fun, and very inspiring to see LPMs get stuck in to promoting sustainable living in their areas!

I've always been passionate about caring for our environment; I studied Product Design at university, trying to create eco-friendly solutions to everyday problems, now I'm keen to take a more hands on approach! I believe that the way to encourage others to help themselves and their environment is through the promotion of good practice on a personal level and via community based projects.

I love my bike, I love growing my own vegetables and even better cooking them to make scrumptious vegetarian dishes (with a little help from locally sourced organic products) and I love delving into 2nd hand shops for beautiful bargains or even trying to sew my own!

When I found AfSL, they provided me with a course at the Centre for Alternative Technology, which is somewhere I have always wanted to visit. Shortly after that I went on a permaculture course at the Nell Lane Allotments and the Chorlton community allotment project - 'the lost plot' was born. Now I'm happy to be helping out in any way I can.
