Chorlton Allotment Project volunteers, Matt and Cookie, worked to build the plot's first permaculture-based structure - a herb spiral made out of recycled timbers from an old victorian house. This was one of the features planned at the original site design course in Nov 2005.

A Herb Spiral is a simple way to improve your kitchen garden, a spiralled wall of rocks or timber encloses soil in which many species of herbs are planted. The wall warms and dehumidifies the soil. The extended edge, wrapped in on itself provides a wide diversity of conditions, creating high productivity in a small space, but is easy to water and harvest.
