I am the West Midlands Food for Life Partnership Coordinator, I manage the programme in the West Midlands, working with 20 Flagship schools, and eventually 400+ Partnership schools. The Food for Life Partnership is a network of schools and their communities across England committed to transforming food culture. Together, we will revolutionise school meals, reconnect young people with where their food comes from and inspire families to cook and grow food... no small task! I joined AFSL in early 2004. As their first "sustainability consultant" I helped to set up the project in Chorlton, where I remained for three wonderful years. When I think back to my time at AFSL, four words spring to mind:
The commitment and enthusiasm shown by the directors of AFSL is infectious, and has attracted genuinely nice, hard working, committed individuals to work with them, in paid and voluntary positions. This great team, was a real joy to work with, hence my second word "laughter" - there was always a lot of it! I would describe the AFSL team as my second family, people who trusted me and gave me the freedom to take projects forward whilst knowing they would back me 100%. Finally unique... its impossible to really describe how fantastic it is to work for AFSL, the only way to know is to work with them! I still volunteer for AFSL, and can't ever imagine that I won't. Thanks to AFSL, I have grown personally and professionally. I have another great job now, and that is down to the diverse set of skills I acquired whilst working with AFSL. If you are thinking of working or volunteering with AFSL go for it, you will have the best time of your life. |
