Sust Swap Shop returns on the 14th April. The collaboration between Action for Sustainable Living, Friends of the Earth and the Make Trade Fair Society at University has been running regularly since last October with each event gaining in popularity.
The idea is easy: bring clean, good quality clothes that you no longer want and exchange them for other peoples' items.
The Sust Swap Shop events aim to enliven and excite people with the simple, sustainable practice of sharing. While people attend the events seeking a free wardrobe update, they often find themselves equally elated by the prospect of seeing their unwanted clothes getting a new lease on life and feel good taking part in collective action for sustainable development.
"Part of the fun is seeing clothes you've loved go to a good home. At the last Swap Shop event I took a favourite old pair of boots, as well as some jeans and tops. The nicest thing was seeing a girl pounce on my old boots. She loved them!" says Filipina Moore, a volunteer for the Swap Shop events.
Swappers should bring at least three pieces or pay £1 and pick up as many of everyone else's as they like for free. Any items left at the end will be donated to charity or recycled. This event is open to anyone.
So if you’re having a Spring Clean why not bring along your unwanted items, and you might just find that elusive item you’ve been looking for!
