Do you care about Climate Change and what it means to your local community?

The Energy Academy is an initiative to help local local residents reduce the amount of energy they consume in their homes and save a bit of money to boot! The Academy has been running for over a year now and in that time 17 volunteers have advised over 1000 people in Hale, Altrincham and Timperley and helped to save almost 2,500 life-time tonnes of CO2.

The Academy started life as one of 6 pilot projects taking place throughout the EU as part of the CHANGING BEHAVIOUR project. The aim of this project was to investigate whether local volunteers would have greater influence on their immediate community on issues regarding energy conservation and help shape new European guidance for behavioural change interventions. Our volunteers not only attend local events and speak to community groups, but also organise pub quizzes, stalls and even music nights to engage people about energy efficiency and other facets of sustainability.

The Academy builds on the skills, knowledge and experience of Trafford Council, Action for Sustainable Living, : KnowledgeCapital and the Energy Savings Trust to build a supported volunteer network to engage, enthuse, advise and support residents in maximising the energy efficiency of their homes.

We are currently looking for volunteers in Altrincham, Hale and Timperley to join the Energy Academy and work with exisiting Academy volunteers to give friends, family and neighbours energy advice, help them save money and provide information on environmental initiatives.

If you are passionate about the environment, like having fun and meeting new people and want to make a real, positive impact in your local community then get in touch with Action for Sustainable Living today. All Energy Academy volunteers will receive full training, resources and mentoring, as well as ongoing support from a dedicated member of staff.
