Wonderland Park is a project that is rejuvenating and transforming a park in the centre of the Coverdale and New Bank housing estate in Ardwick. The aim of Wonderland Park is to work with local people to encourage community cohesion, up-skill people who are currently unemployed and create a sense of pride in the area by creating a green area that people can use for recreation.
Voluntary Local Project Manager, Rich Hacking, has been leading plans to create a community allotment in an adjoining part of the estate. The first step will be creating a sensory garden/picnic area at one end of the site.
Where are we up to so far?
At the moment, the project is in the planning phase with fortnightly meetings taking place between the council regeneration team, local residents and housing providers.
Getting involved, what would you be doing?
- The Local Project Manager leading on this project needs a helping hand to make it a success. We are looking for someone who would enjoy co-ordinating local volunteer activities between 9 and 5 during the week.
- Attend meetings when Local Project Manager is not able
- Assist with recruitment of volunteers from the local community
- Assist with coordination of volunteers in creating the sensory garden
We are looking for someone who can:
- Easily travel to Ardwick to meet with volunteers during the day
- Carry out practical tasks such as construction, carpentry and planting
- Coordinate volunteer activities
Commitment:
4 hours per week during the day in the initially during the planning phase. A bigger commitment of two days a week will be needed when we start to create the sensory garden and allotments.
