Hulme is joining towns and cities across the UK in becoming a 'Transition Town'. HIT's aim is to reduce the carbon footprint of Hulme and to help in the ward's transition to a low carbon economy. The thinking behind it is simply that a town using much less energy and resources than we presently consume could, if properly planned for and designed, be more resilient, more abundant and more pleasurable than the present. HIT is a community-led initiative working towards the creation of an Energy Descent Action Plan through a process of discussion and community participation & engagement. To be thrown upon one's own resources, is to be cast into the very lap of fortune; for our faculties then undergo a development and display an energy of which they were previously unsusceptible. |
