Hulme Food Group

Hulme Food Group Launch Poster - volunteer designed - Oct 06

Hulme Food Group was formed to explore a number of local food related matters which Hulme residents had brought to AfSL's attention. Through further group work and consultation the key issues were identified as:

- People being able to afford to feed themselves healthy food through assistance with budgeting tips and menu planning ideas;
- Healthy food being made more available to people with health issues;
- Confusion over what’s in our food;
- The need for local bulk buying models for basic foods;
- Child nutrition and their awareness of where food comes from;
- Understanding relationships between food the children eat and their behaviour;
- Improving local and fair trade food availability;
- Not enough local food growing.

Hulme Food Group members helped to organise an awareness raising event at the Zion Community Centre - Feel Good for Free Day - before developing into the Hulme Urban Gardens Society.
