Who are we? The Real Nappies group in Old Trafford started in 2006 as one of the action groups supported by Action for Sustainable Living (AfSL). It is aimed at educating the community especially new parents on the environmental impacts of using disposable nappies in view of the continual decrease in landfill space. It also aims to enlighten and inform parents on money saving scheme and ventures to help with child raising costs. Taking into account all the environmental factors, including raw material and energy usage, air and water pollution emissions, and waste management issues. What do we do? The Real Nappies group has been represented at the following events: Other events include a “nappacino – coffee morning to talk about the benefits and ease of using cloth nappies and a nappy pamper day at Old Trafford Children’s centre with attraction such as messages, food and a crèche to ensure guardians laid back. Future Plans! The vision for the group is become a first point of call when it comes to sustainable nappies in Old Trafford. We would like to form partnership with the local NHS, child care centres. We hope to be able to have more events to raise awareness of cloth nappies. Ideas for the future include: 1. A Nappy Library / Directory so that people interested in trying cloth nappies can sample and learn more about them. How can you get involved? As a result of past events, a few people have shown their interest in the issue of disposable nappies, alternatives especially real nappies and in helping the group grow.
