Turbine 1125 |
During August 2005 wind farms across the country became open to all during ‘Wind Weekend – Touch a Turbine’. Events took place across the country on the last weekend before the schools went back (27/28 August). This was an amazing opportunity to get right up close to, and even ‘touch a turbine’. These awe inspiring planet savers are really quite beautiful from afar, but up close they are even more dramatic, their blades shifting in response to the winds energy. The event closest to was at Coal Clough Wind Farm situated near Burnley. This is one of the UK’s first wind farms to be built. Coal Clough began generating on 9th December 1992 and since has produced a giant 28.6 Gigawatt hours per year, which equates to around 6,000 homes being supplied with clean, green energy every year.
The event included a chance to go inside a turbine where a technician explained how all the gizmos worked. Kids (and adults) could also put their handprints on another turbine; there were activities for children and experts on hand to answer any questions. What you can do Embrace the Revolution is a high profile national campaign, launched by the British Wind Energy Association, to challenge the myths about wind energy and give supporters of wind, three quarters of the UK population, an opportunity to take action. If you would like to find out more about renewable energy or perhaps even look into producing some of your own, arrange a FREE visit from one of our consultants. Or e-mail your local MP to show your support for wind energy Read more at www.yes2wind.com/17_08_05_news_story.html
