Funding |
Defra In March 2006 we submitted a funding bid to Defra's Climate Challenge Fund, in partnership with Emerge Recycling and Metropolitan University (MMU). If successful the bid will fund a campaign in Hulme and MMU to change people's attitudes towards climate change and enable them to take action to reduce CO2 emissions. Many thanks to AfSL volunteer Dan Welch without whom this bid could not have been prepared, and to all the individuals and organisations who provided letters of support. For more information contact AfSL Hulme. AfSL's main funders are currently Defra, who have awarded us a grant of over £150,000 for the 3 years from April 2005 from their Environmental Action Fund (EAF). Renewal of the grant each year is subject to us making satisfactory progress in meeting our objectives. We are pleased to report that Defra is happy with our progress and with our plans for 2006/07, and has renewed our funding for this year. EAF only provides part-funding however. Each year we need to find about £25,000 from other sources and demonstrate voluntary activity to the value of about £25,000, or the EAF grant may be withdrawn.
Awards for All In January 2006, Awards for All awarded AfSL a grant of £4,800. This grant will help us to diversify our activities by running a series of 6 themed, facilitated events in 4 different locations - a total of 24 events:
Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) In February 2006, CAF awarded AfSL a grant of £1,450. This will fund 5 days of expert consultancy to produce a "health check" report on us. One of CAF's consultants will review the current situation of our organisation and identify areas that require immediate attention. This will include:
We hope that this external evaluation, together with our own internal evaluations, will help us to develop and improve AfSL further.
Hulme energy awareness campaign In February 2006, AfSL and Hulme Energy Action Team (HEAT) won a regional award in the Affordable Warmth, Sustainable World award scheme. This will provide £2000 to enable a mail-out to the 11,000 households in Hulme, as well as churches, schools and other local organisations. more ...
