Hulme energy awareness campaign

In February 2006, AfSL and Hulme Energy Action Team (HEAT) won a regional award in the Affordable Warmth, Sustainable World award scheme.  This will provide £2000 to enable a mail-out to the 11,000 households in Hulme, as well as churches, schools and other local organisations.

The mail-out will include:

  • An outline of HEAT purposes as a community wide initiative
  • Energy Saving tips with local themes, e.g. “if everybody in Hulme turned appliances off standby we could close X number of power stations”.
  • Energy Awareness Pledges
  • Energy Use Log – an easy to use way for individuals to monitor and understand their own domestic energy consumption
  • Free loft insulation sign-ups forms for those on benefits
  • Explanatory material about renewable Vs non-renewable energy supply – with green energy sign-up advice
  • How to get involved? – a leaflet to recruit new members and offer training programmes for local energy efficiency champions
  • Registration of interest forms for co-operative energy saving programmes.

The funding will also support HEAT’S infastructure by helping pay for the set-up and logging of responses to the campaign which will establish HEAT’s first active community database.

The Affordable Warmth, Sustainable World award scheme is organised by National Energy Action (NEA), the national fuel poverty charity in partnership with the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and npower.
